PRIMARY SCHOOL SCIENCE WORKSHOP
The great Stephen Hawking once said, “Science is not only a disciple of reason, but also one of romance and passion.” Science is both a study and a way of living. Everything in the nature and our daily lives involves science, from planet earth to the smartphone in our pockets. Science can take us from confusion to understanding in a manner that's precise, predictive and reliable. However, do we ever let science immerse into our lives?

PROJECT HOLDERS' ORIENTATION CAMP
The Project Holders' Orientation Camp was successfully held from 3 to 5 April, at Caritas Jockey Club Ming Fai Camp in Cheung Chau.
Project Holders were grouped into teams and completed a series of tasks related to the preparation of the Exhibition, such as a mock Model Inspection Scheme and a mock Exhibition. Moreover, an island tracing and detective game were organised for them to build teamwork and have some fun. Not only did they get a taste of the real Exhibition, friendships were also developed among Project Holders from different schools as well as the Preparation Committee members.

PRIMARY SCHOOL COLOURING COMPETITION
Bearing the annual theme “Reflection”, the Colouring Competition is held to encourage primary school students to express their passion for science through colouring and drawing. Participants are required to paint and decorate the sheet of sketch to bring out the theme “Reflection ”.
The Competition will be divided into two divisions:
junior primary section (Primary 1 to Primary 3)
senior primary section (Primary 4 to Primary 6)
The awards for each division include:
Champion
First runner-up
Second runner-up
Ten Merit awards
“Most Active Participating School" award
Winners could receive exquisite gifts and prizes, and his/her winning work might be exhibited in the Joint School Science Exhibition.
Participants are required to mail the finished piece to P.O. box. No. 91975, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Hong Kong on or before 20 May 2018.

JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL ACTIVITY
The Junior Secondary School Activity was successfully held on 24 March at the University of Hong Kong, Library Extension Building, LE5. We are glad to see participants from different schools getting along with one another, as well as showcasing their talents and teamwork through completing varies of challenging science-based tasks. We would like to express our gratitude to the University of Hong Kong, all of our participants and the Preparation Committee members for making the event a success.
PROJECT HOLDERS' SEMINAR
The Project Holders’ Seminar was successfully held on 21 January 2018 in the University of Hong Kong. During the seminar, The J.S.S.E.P.C. and J.S.S.E. were introduced to the Project Holders from different participating schools. Details of the Proposal Competition such as regulations, marking criteria as well as guidance on the preparation work were also announced.
PROPOSAL COMPETITION
The Proposal Competition of the 51st Joint School Science Exhibition is now OPEN for application. All Form 3 to Form 5 students forming a team of four are eligible and welcomed. No more than 30 entrants who perform outstandingly in the Proposal Competition will have the opportunity to display and demonstrate their models to the public in the Exhibition, which will be held in late August 2018.
1ST GENERAL MEETING
The 1st General Meeting was held on 19 November 2017 at the University of Hong Kong. The year theme and theme colour were introduced to all Preparation Committee members, who also voted for the logo, Chinese and English slogan. The four departments were successfully formed during the General Meeting as well.
